Wiedewei calendar days 2024

Published January 9, 2024

Your child will again go on an adventure at Wiedewei in 2024. In this news item you can read what awesome activities we will be doing at the Wiedewei locations next year.

Reading garden (January 24 to February 3, 2024)
During the National Reading Days, reading and reading aloud are central to our reading garden. Besides the fact that reading stimulates the imagination and develops a sense of language, your child also experiences a lot of fun.

National garden bird count (January 27, 2024)
Every year in January, the Bird Protection Organization organizes the 'National Garden Bird Count'. The information they obtain allows them to help and protect the birds even better. Your BSO child also participates in this. On Friday, January 27, your child will count the birds in our garden together with his or her friends.

Warm Sweater Week (February 5 to February 9, 2024)
The Warm Sweater Day is the largest climate action in the Netherlands to combat energy waste. In the same week it is the 'Wiede Warme Week' at Wiedewei. During this week your child will consciously engage in activities related to 'keeping yourself warm'. In this way, your child playfully learns about energy waste and how to combat it.

Vegetable garden month (March 1 to March 31, 2024)
The vegetable garden month is the start of our gardening period. This month your child will prepare the vegetable garden together with his or her friends. They do this by raking, weeding and planting seeds. This way your child will learn up close what it takes to grow a seed into a plant.

National tree festival day (March 20, 2024)
Trees are indispensable in combating climate change. During National Tree Festival Day, we plant a tree in our garden at all our locations. Together with your child we will create one big party!

National Bee Count (April 12, 2024)
During the National Bee Count, the whole of the Netherlands is called upon to count bees. Your child at after-school care also counts. First we count together in the garden and then we enter the data on nationalebijentelling.nl. In addition to practicing counting in this way, your child will also learn more about bees and why they are important to nature.

Safety Week (1) (April 15 to April 19, 2024)
At Wiedewei it is 'Safety Week' twice a year. During this week we will pay extra attention to the safety of the location together with your child. For example, in the form of an evacuation drill or safety check.

Sow week (April 22 to April 26, 2024)
Every year the Bee Foundation organizes National Sowing Day. Bees ensure the pollination and therefore the reproduction of flowers and plants. This makes them indispensable. This year your child will also sow flowers at Wiedewei. This way, your young explorer can go on a flower safari and help the bees.

Butterfly month at Wiedewei (May 6 to May 31, 2024)
Every year in May it is Butterfly Month at Wiedewei. Your child will care for the caterpillars and cocoons in collaboration with the Butterfly Foundation. As soon as the butterflies are there, your child releases them into nature.

Day of green childcare (May 21, 2024)
The third Tuesday in May is Green Childcare Day. A day with extra attention to nature and being outdoors. This day we show the whole world how fun and inspiring it is for children to be outside.

Barefoot week (June 17 to June 21, 2024)
This week your child will do various activities barefoot. Walking barefoot is very good for babies and toddlers. With different surfaces in the garden, your child will discover and experience new stimuli and sensations with his or her feet.

Mud week (June 24 to June 28, 2024)
Did you know that playing in the mud is very good for your child? Mud play stimulates his or her creative ability. That's why your child plays with mud all week long at Wiedewei. This week your child gets the chance to discover, experience and, above all, get covered in mud!

National Butterfly Count (July 1 to July 19, 2024)
Butterflies, like bees and other insects, are important to nature. Unfortunately, these creepy crawlies in the Netherlands are not doing well and we have to do something about that! The Butterfly Foundation therefore organizes the annual garden count. During this period, your child will be involved in butterfly counting in nature in and around our garden at the after-school care center.

Wiedewei party  (September 2 to September 6, 2024)
The National Festival 'Fête de la Nature' takes place in the first weekend of September. This means 'celebrate nature'. A good moment to celebrate nature at Wiedewei together with you and your child. We provide a pleasant program with healthy snacks and drinks.

Wiedewei clean (September 16 to September 20, 2024)
World Cleanup Day is the largest global cleanup campaign of the year. During this worldwide clean-up campaign, your child will also contribute to the after-school care of Wiedewei. He or she gets to work in our own garden.

Ticklebugs week (September 23 to September 27, 2024)
This week your child will discover the world of the little tickly creatures at Wiedewei. He or she goes on safari in our garden and discovers who lives in our garden.

Safety Week (2) (October 7 to October 11, 2024)
At Wiedewei it is 'Safety Week' twice a year. During this week we will pay extra attention to the safety of the location together with your child. For example, in the form of an evacuation drill or safety check.

Children are the boss at after-school care (November 18 to November 22, 2024)
This week the roles are reversed, because your child is the boss. Your child decides together with his or her friends what they are going to do this week. This way your child will learn a lot, such as forming their own opinion and that it matters. In addition, your child will learn to stand up for himself or herself and become more involved in after-school care activities.
