5 reasons why adventurous play at Wiedewei is so good for kids (and how you as parents can help us!)

Published December 11, 2024

Running barefoot through the grass, diving into a pile of leaves or go exploring with the mud up to your ears: at Wiedewei we see nature as the best playground that is there. We believe that aadventurous play is essential for the development of children. Eand challenging but safe environment in which children are allowed to fall, get up and, above all, discover. And the best part? As a parent, you can help us with this!

WWhy is adventurous play so important for your child? We're happy to explain:

1. Self-confidence grows 💪

When children engage in adventurous play and take on physical challenges – like climbing a tree or jumping over a big puddle – they learn to push their boundaries. Adventure play is all about giving children the freedom to take risks in a safe environment. Because every victory, every boundary pushed, no matter how small, gives your child a huge boost of self-confidence.

“Just playing outside is nice and familiar, but adventurous outdoor play challenges children to discover their own limits. It’s about taking risks and learning from every exciting experience!”

2. Creativity and imagination flourish 🌸

The most beautiful adventures arise off the beaten track. When children are allowed to decide for themselves how they play, there is room for their imagination. A fallen tree becomes a bridge, a branch a magic wand and a pile of sand an uninhabited island. Adventurous play stimulates the imagination and allows children to shape the world in their own way.

3. Motor development gets a boost 🚀

Running, jumping, climbing and balancing ensure that children improve their motor skills. Whether they are making an obstacle course with friends from sticks and stones, or taking on the adventure of climbing a muddy slope, they learn to know their own body and how to develop their muscles and coordination through play.

4. Natural curiosity is aroused 🔥

Nature is one big playground full of surprises. What happens when you stick a stick in the water? How do you make a nest with grass, twigs and leaves for Spruit? Adventurous play teaches children to ask questions and find solutions. Their innate curiosity is given all the space to grow.

5. Improve social skills ❤️

When children go on adventures together, they learn to work together and to be considerate of others. Whether it's playing together building a hut or running a mud kitchen: at Wiedewei children learn important social skills while having fun!

"Door avontuurlijk spel leert je kind omgaan met kleine risico’s. Een kind kan misschien een kleine verwonding oplopen zoals een schaafwond of blauwe plek. We noemen dit aanvaardbare risico’s. Avontuurlijk spelen betekent niet dat we je kind helemaal vrij laten. Grote risico's en gevaren met ernstig letsel sluiten we uiteraard uit."
