Last On Thursday afternoon, parents and staff gathered at Wiedewei and Ridderkerk for an inspiring meeting about experiencing nature. At 3:30 PM, nature educator Jael Nouhet and site manager Sabrina Witter warmly welcomed everyone. It was an afternoon full of activity, sharing experiences, and practical tips.
Feel what movement does to you outdoors
The afternoon got off to an active start. During a short exercise, parents and staff experienced how cold and exercise affect the body. The group's own ideas for the exercise led to a lot of recognition and enjoyment. Being active outdoors had an immediate effect: laughter and a relaxed atmosphere.
Let's talk together: how do you deal with nature and the outdoors at home?
In small groups, insight questions were used to discuss how people interact with nature and going outside at home. Questions such as "I'm very happy with what I do with my child in relation to nature. Namely..." led to open conversations about things like forest walks and camping holidays. They also shared fond childhood memories.
The discussion also focused on the relationship between the weather, our feelings, and our motivation to go outside. How aware are we of this? And what do we want to teach children about it?
A weather station for your home: feel, watch and talk together
Jael explained how physical activity in nature has a positive effect on stress and energy levels, and surprised attendees with a "weather station" that parents can create at home with their child. By indicating the weather and how you feel on the weather station, you become aware of the influence of the weather on our feelings and emotions. And what's more, it's a real us-moment to put it together.
Discover about bees and butterflies
Finally, Sabrina talked about the new discovery boxes around the themes bees and butterfliesThe boxes contain activity cards suitable for children aged 1 to 4, as well as materials to further explore the theme. A wonderful way to let children discover how special the nature around us is. The children at Wiedewei and Ridderkerk will be using the discovery box in the coming weeks. butterflies get started.
Take home practical tips
Parents went home with simple, practical tips and ideas to continue their nature education at home. Practical tools to help them get outdoors more often, to experience wonder and enjoyment together.
