At Wiedewei we love to be outside all day long. We not only discover nature there, but also sleep there! At many of our locations you will find outdoor beds: nice and safe places where babies can sleep in the fresh air. Not only because it is a nice experience, but because it offers many benefits for the health and development of children.

Why sleep outside?
In Scandinavia it is the most normal thing in the world: babies sleep outside, even in colder weather. At Wiedewei we like to adopt this natural and healthy way of sleeping. Why is that such a good idea? Read along:
- Sleep longer and deeper
The fresh air and natural sounds of birds, rustling leaves or soft rain have a calming effect and promote deep sleep. The result? Babies who wake up refreshed and with more energy to explore the world. - Vitamin D
In daylight outside, the body produces more vitamin D; important for the development of strong bones and teeth. - Healthy airways
Finnish research shows that babies who sleep outdoors are less likely to get sick. The fresh air improves the functioning of the respiratory tract.
Safety first
Safety is always our number one priority at Wiedewei. At most Wiedewei locations, it is possible for babies to sleep outside, but not all locations are suitable for this. We only choose to sleep outside if it is safe. Our outdoor beds are specially designed to protect babies and provide a safe, restful place:
🏠 Protection | The beds have a roof and are covered where necessary. The beds are sheltered from the wind and positioned so that no direct sunlight can fall on them. They are also windproof and equipped with mesh against mosquitoes and other insects.
🎥 Supervision | We make sure that the beds are in a safe place, always visible from the window, so that pedagogical staff can keep an eye on things easily. Of course, we also use a baby monitor (and/or camera) to see and hear the baby.
🧤 Clothing | The baby's clothing is carefully matched to the weather conditions. Mittens and a special sleeping bag in winter, or airy clothing in summer.
🌦️ Weather forecast | We check the air quality and the weather forecast before putting a baby to bed outside.
⚡ Extreme weather | In case of thunderstorms, strong winds or rain and extreme temperatures, the outside beds are not used. The children then have a nice bed inside to sleep in.
🌡️ Sick | If a baby is sick, we prefer to put him or her to sleep indoors. Always after consultation with the parents.
🧼 Clean & safe | The beds are regularly cleaned and checked for safety.

Nap by nap closer to nature
At Wiedewei, sleeping outside is not a trend, but a conscious choice. It is more than just sleeping: it is an investment in the health and development of every child. We are proud to offer this at Wiedewei. Nature offers the ideal environment to dream big, even with your eyes closed.
